A farm stand at night under a string of warm bulbs, with wooden crates full of real pumpkins, a chalk sign and a bale of hay. In the middle crate sits a white cat with a brown paper bag on its head. A pumpkin face is drawn on the bag in black marker, and it glows from inside.

Every night the stand puts out fresh pumpkins. One night there was one more. White fur. A brown paper bag. A face drawn on in black marker. He sat so still that we gave him a price tag. He is still there.

Then the treat. He guards the bowl all night.

He goes door to door with his own pumpkin bucket. Then he comes home, puts a paw in the bowl, and keeps it there.

The prize table. He won everything.

At the harvest fair the judges walked past every pumpkin. Then they walked back. Three ribbons. One entrant.
